Social computing
This week
we started by looking at how the internet started with web 1.0 which focused on
growth and monetisation of the web. Then we looked at web 2.0 which is what we
have today, this is very extensive and serves many purposes and has many
developments like AJAX which allows web pages to only refresh necessary parts
and not the whole page. Another large development is social networking, this is
now integrated into the daily life of billions of people and involves networks
like facebook. Social shopping is another development which allows previous consumers
to communicate to possible consumers about the product through ratings and
reviews. Advertisement has seen a huge development through the web by the
development of market research and therefore targeted online advertisement. Recruiting
has seen a significant development as a possible employee’s internet past can
be viewed, aswell as putting job openings on the web so many people can view
and apply for them.

A good summary about how the internet has evolved over time. I liked how you mentioned that advertisements on the internet were quite significant for market researchers to understand their target audiences better. Nice work, Mat!
